ÔSS, an intriguing encounter between the Dançando com a Diferença company and Marlene Monteiro Freitas explores the differences between the solid and the soft, the entrails and skin alike. This no-holds-barred dance is brought to us by a troupe about which the same could be said. ÔSS brings us the infinite possibility of an island.
The mission of Dançando com a Diferença, an inclusive dance company based in Madeira under the direction of Henrique Amoedo is to prove that there is a place for different bodies in contemporary creation, thereby creating a whole host of different perspectives. Invitations to artists such as François Chaignaud, Tânia Carvalho, and Vera Mantero have helped shape the vision of its artistic director, Henrique Amoedo. After the Festival d’Automne hosted the performance of Happy Island, a piece by La Ribot, in collaboration with Dançando com a Diferença, ÔSS by Marlene Monteiro Freitas will be presented at the Festival’s 2022 edition. This “bone“ watches over anatomical orientations and is a ‘revealer’ of secrets, a body that shivers and jolts with pleasure. The choreographer seeks to work with both the solid and soft, and to explore entrails and skin alike. ÔSS or upside-down dance. In the words of Dançando com a Diferença, “We dance with our bodies, not in spite of them“. ÔSS is a manifesto for all to share, a celebration that knows no obstacles.

Marcelo Evelin, Demolition Incorporada Uirapuru
In this piece, the choreographer Marcelo Evelin, from the north-east region of Brazil, invites us to set foot inside a metaphorical forest and its ecological condition. Through minimalist dance, and guided by the call of the legendary Uirapuru, a rare and endangered bird, six performers embody the promise of discovering what is and what still eludes our senses.
