The production of two of William Forsythe’s major works, twenty-five years on, testify to the contemporariness of his choreographic approach. Performed by the Royal Ballet of Flanders, Artifact (1984) may be seen as a danced manifesto, while Impressing the Czar (1988) is a joyful parody of 19th century ballet. Both bear witness to his will to incorporate music and theater into a profound understanding of dance.
