Luc Bondy stages The Chairs, one of Eugène Ionesco’s most radical plays. In this tragic farce, two characters who seem stuck in a repetitive existance decide to impart humanity with an ultimate message. They invite guests who will sit on chairs on stage. The play reflects on the nature of theatrical performance, and brings to light the limits of language in an absurdist world.
