As a teenager, Rihm was fascinated by Catholic ceremonies and choral music – the ultimate reference for him being the Brahms German Requiem – and his work includes many religious compositions.  Et Lux  endeavors to bring the liturgical text of the requiem to an intimate level where the string quartet intermingles with the voices of the Hilliard Ensemble.
