Returning to Greek tragedy, Georges Aperghis has chosen Ismene, written with and for Marianne Pousseur. Ismene, daughter/sister of Oedipus, daughter/grand-daughter of Jocasta, and sister of Antigone is a human figure: she does not defy the fates, but is merely a spectator. Yannis Ritsos presents Ismene reminiscing many years later, singing a solo opera in French and “Greek” sounds invented by Aperghis.
