Luc Bondy is a master in the art of deconstructing and reinventing the classics, in particular in bringing out the music in Marivaux’s writing – which he is staging here for the second time. This comedy portrays a beautiful and inconsolable widow and a betrayed and tearful lover. After long suppressing their mutual attraction, they finally marry “in a powerful accord which joins them together in a shared life full of ritual…”
