This concert features three contemporary composers with contrasting styles. Donatoni includes improvisational patterns in his mechanically composed ‘‘imaginary jazz’’ pieces, while Sciarrino’s ‘‘lucid epiphanies’’ spring from a powerful organic lyricism, arte povera sonore. For Combier, the youngest of the three, form is an essential part of his work, in which electronics enhance sound, impelling listeners to “breathe in the shadows”.
