The theatre according to Enrique Diaz is a game of doubles and dupes. He cultivates the mise en abyme involving artistic creation already nestled within the core of Chekhov’s The Seagull; but then he derails the play and the actors. Suddenly, the characters split in two, strange props appear and the stage is taken over by a scene from La Dame aux Camélias, excerpts from Stanislavksy’s diary and the actors telling their secrets. In Seagull-Play the accent is on ‘‘play’’.
