Retranslation of Francis Bacon’s Unfinished Portrait (Disfiguration)
Archive 2006
In this installation, which echoes the circuit designed by Toni Morrison through the museum, William Forsythe and Peter Welz mix paintings, drawings and video works that examine the human figure and its relation to space. They found their inspiration in a self-portrait by Francis Bacon, a masterpiece left unfinished, which is seen for the first time in France. Owing to Beckett as much as Bacon, Forsythe hereby aims to « inscribe the presence of an absence.”
