Faustus, The Last Night is an “an opera in one night and eleven numbers.”
To depict the myth of this frenzied and paranoid megalomaniac, Dusapin chose to go back to the original Faustus by Christopher Marlowe. This leads into a vast maze a la Borgès, a medley of excerpts from Dante, Flaubert and Olivier Cadiot, as well as Melville’s Bartleby and Shakespeare’s Sly in The Taming of the Shrew.
