First there is the language of Martin Crimp, his ruthless humor, the way he beats around a topic without ever trapping us. It is his first play, a radio play, and it begins like a studio recording. By the end, we feel at home with that couple, an ordinary couple. They speak to each other but they don’t listen, they listen but they don’t hear. Yet tenderness will save them.
