Poetry in the shadow of sorrow and despair pervades the works confronted in this concert. Whether a cappella – a chorus and solo voices in an “anthology of meditation” – or inspired by popular and medieval tonalities, they shape the miraculous concordance of music and poetry, to a t. The words of John Keats come to mind: “Melancholy dwells with beauty – a beauty that must die.”
