Lim’s work is a « ceremony of seasons » imbued with supernatural, dreamlike qualities. The Brisbane-based composer of Chinese heritage thrives in a netherworld of crossover-points, « ...metaphors of travel through life and death ». She draws on elements of aboriginal shamanic rituals to help create « a shimmering effect » for In the Shadow’s Light. Soprano Deborah Kayser “converses” with the qin – a sort of Chinese zither – in The Quickening.
