The compositions offered here span seven decades and three generations. But they all strive to get to the heart of the matter – the sound. Scelsi’s compositions probe the “sphericity” of sound, or lead back to the incantations of theTibetan llamas and Vedic tradition. Varese digs for inspiration for Ecuatorial in a prayer borrowed from the Quiche Mayas’ Popol Vuh, while Kyburz’s Noesis is a return to pure sources: life’s pulsating rhythm.
