Ruth Rosental et Xavier Klaine

Ruth Rosenthal, born in Jerusalem, is an Israeli artist who graduated from the Visual Theater School of Jerusalem. She has worked as a performer, puppeteer and lighting designer in a large number of shows on the independent scene in Israel.

Xavier Klaine is a musician born in Maxéville on the outskirts of Nancy. A bassist in hardcore bands, he holds a gold medal in piano and chamber music from the CRR in Nancy.

Ruth Rosenthal and Xavier Klaine met in Jaffa, Israel, in 2004 and founded Winter Family. Initially a music group, they have released several albums and have given over 600 concerts in churches, art galleries, museums, rock venues, etc. They have worked with stage directors (Arthur Nauzyciel), choreographers (Paco Dècina, Damien Jallet), film-makers (Sebastien Betbeder, Blaise Harrisson), visual artists (Yochai Matos, Maïder Fortuné) and have written the music for several advertisements (Chanel, L'UE). In 2011, following on from a radio workshop recorded in Jerusalem for Radio France Culture, they created the documentary theatre performance Jerusalem Plomb Durci - voyage halluciné dans une dictature émotionnelle, which won the Impatience festival at the CENTQUATRE in Paris, was invited to the Avignon Festival and then toured internationally for 3 years. From 2010 to 2012, they stayed in New York as part of the Villa Médicis - Hors les Murs programme, and then decided to extend their stay there in order to make No World / FPLL, their second show created in 2015. In 2018, they created H2- Hébron, based on 500 pages of testimonies collected by Winter Family in Israeli-occupied Palestine. They are currently creating Taglit-Droit du Sang, a new documentary theatre show.
