Maxime Kurvers

Born in 1987 in Sarrebourg, Moselle, Maxime Kurvers currently lives in Paris. In 2015, Pièces courtes 1-9 was his first stage production, in the form of a theatrical programme questioning the minimal conditions of his own production. Created in 2016, Dictionnaire de la musique extends this questioning of the theatre and its resources through the presence and history of other media. La naissance de la tragédie (2018) is a solo for and by actor Julien Geffroy. Idées musicales (2020) is an experimental musical recital. Since 2018, he has been working on a long-term project, Théories et pratiques du jeu d'acteur-rice (1428-2021), une bibliothèque vivante pour l’art de l’acteur en 28 chapitres. 4 questions à Yoshi Oida (2022) extends these questions of theatrical anthropology in other ways. Maxime Kurvers is associate artist at the Ménagerie de verre for the 2016-2017 season, resident artist at Saison Foundation Tokyo in 2020 and associate artist at La Commune - CDN d'Aubervilliers from 2016 to 2023.

Okina

Theatre

The director Maxime Kurvers furthers his research in theatrical anthropology by bringing the actress Yuri Itabashi face-to-face with the ban which prevents her, in accordance with tradition, from performing Okina, a play and ritual originating from nō theatre. As such, this piece is about how, through the power of the imagination, we can embrace what is forbidden to us.
