Joël Pommerat
Born in 1963, Joël Pommerat is an author-director and founder of the Compagnie Louis Brouillard. He had the particularity of directing only his own texts, since, according to him, the staging and the text are developed at the same time during rehearsals. After Pôles, created in 1995, his play Au monde (first play in the trilogy) brought him his first major public and critical success. With D'une seule main (2005) and Les Marchands (2006), which complete the trilogy, Joël Pommerat anchors his plays more directly in contemporary reality and the questioning of our representations. He tackles reality in all its multiple aspects, material, concrete and imaginary. He is also the author of Cercles/Fictions (2010), Ma Chambre froide (2011), La Réunification des deux Corées (2013), Ça ira (1) Fin de Louis (2015) and Contes et légendes (2019). In his works, he seeks to unsettle audiences and create a visual theater that is both intimate and spectacular, with a strong presence from the actors. Since 2014, he has been running workshops at the Maison Centrale in Arles, with long-term prisoners. Joël Pommerat was invited to the Festival d'Automne for the first time in 2024 for Marius, a play freely inspired by Marcel Pagnol.

Joël Pommerat Marius
Inspired by the work of Marcel Pagnol, this show explores the theme of escape. Some of the actors had their first experience of theatre at the Maison centrale d'Arles prison. Marius provides audiences with a unique opportunity to discover a little-known but crucial dimension of Joël Pommerat's art.
